COLLECTING VINYL RECORDS

Since CD's were introduced around 1985 in the UK, most people ran out and replaced their old vinyl collections, with these new, much smaller compact discs and replaced their record players with the compact disc player. The CD player also replaced the old idea of the tape cassette player being fitted in millions of peoples cars.

The old, iconic vinyl record and turn-tables have now turned the tables on the compact disc many years later, so all of a sudden vinyl records have become quite desirable and popular once more. The resurrection of vinyl records has created a market for a new ''hands on'' product for lovers of music, to cherish instead of the MP3, ''digital downloads'' that currently lead the way.

In mint condition, vinyl records can be worth many times their original value and Limited Edition vinyl records, rare picture or coloured vinyl records are also highly sought after.

There are many types of Music Genres to choose from to suit all styles and tastes and it's good to see that today's leading artists, in all genres of music, are choosing to record or even re-release singles or albums on the much loved, vinyl format once again.

STORING VINYL RECORDS

Care should be taken when storing vinyl records and you should avoid extreme heat or cold and damp conditions as mould growth can rapidly spread all over your collection. The garden shed or garage are not idea locations for you to store your vinyl in. Insects and rodents alike would like nothing better, then to have a nibble at your music collection covers.

Records should be stored upright (as are books), with paper, card or polythene dust sleeves on, to prevent scratches and a long term build up of dust, grease and grime. 7'' Singles, 12'' discs, albums and box sets should be separated into each size category and be stored snugly to prevent warping or bending of the vinyl. This will also help to prevent creasing and dog-ear cornering to the record sleeves.

You should note that even a small collection of vinyl discs can be extremely heavy and hard to carry around, but there are many intelligent vinyl record storage solutions available, from permanent shelving racks that are attached to the wall for added strength, to smaller more portable ''hard cases'' that can be carried around safely, in small amounts at a time, keeping your vinyl records ''safe and sound''. 😉🎵
